1. Suspension architecture
The left front wheel adopts double-wishbone independent suspension, the upper control arm is made of forged aluminium alloy, and the lower control arm is integrated with high-strength steel press-welded structure, which increases the torsional rigidity by 18%.
The air springs and electronically controlled damping valves are encapsulated in a single unit, with rigid piping connected to the chassis' central air reservoir.
2. Air Damping Unit
The air spring has a wall thickness of 3.2mm, a multi-layer composite structure (rubber + polyamide fibre), and a temperature range of 40℃ to +120℃.
Electrically controlled damping valve adopts magnetorheological fluid technology, 128 levels of damping hardness can be adjusted in real time by 02A current, response time ≤ 20 ms.


Function operation (dynamic mode switching demonstration)
1. Height adjustment
The body height is adjustable in four levels:
Loading mode: chassis lowering 15mm (easy luggage loading and unloading, trigger condition: parking + P gear + tailgate open)
Sport mode: 25mm (optimised for high speed stability)
Standard mode: 0mm (default urban road conditions)
Off-road mode: +35mm (ground clearance increased to 285mm)
Time taken for single height adjustment: 3.5 seconds (from lowest to highest position)


Synergy system (left front view associated technology)
1. 4MATIC 4WD Linkage
In Air Suspension Off-Road mode, the upper limit of torque distribution to the front axle is raised to 70%, which, in conjunction with the extended suspension travel, enhances unilateral wheel grip.
2. Driving mode integration
Suspension parameters are synchronised with the engine/transmission ECU: +20% damping stiffness and 15% faster throttle response in Sport mode.


Durability and Maintenance (details of component workmanship)
1. Seal protection
Air spring piston rod chrome layer thickness 0.1mm, dust cover made of Viton, IP6K9K dustproof and waterproof rating.
2. Fault redundancy design
Dual-zone pressure backup of the air reservoir, extreme air leakage can be maintained for 30 minutes Basic suspension function, speed limit 80km/h.


Sensor layout (left front wheel area assembly)
Integrated height sensor on top of shock absorber (accuracy ±0.5mm), wheel speed signal transmitted to suspension control unit via FlexRay bus (cycle time 5ms).
The radar on the inside of the front bumper is fused with the data from the shock absorbers, and the pre-scanning function identifies road undulations and pre-adjusts damping up to 50 metres in advance.
