There are two main types of air suspension, which are classified according to how the air spring and shock absorber are combined.
One-piece type (integrated): The air spring and shock absorber are integrated into a single unit, creating one air shock absorber. This is compact and easy to install, and is currently the mainstream form of air suspension.
Split: The air spring and shock absorber are installed separately. The air springs are responsible for supporting the body while the shock absorbers are responsible for damping alone. This type of construction is more common on some trucks or modified vehicles because it offers greater design freedom and load carrying capacity. Commonly found in trucks and modified cars.
